RICHARDFISCHER

I recently graduated from UW-Stevens Point Wisconsin with a BA degree in Communications. However, my true love and passion has always been writing. After writing about four screenplays that haven’t gotten any exposure I decided I needed to do something different. I needed to take some risks.
I began writing a Batman Beyond film for several reasons, the first being that I am simply drawn to the mythos and long established history of story arcs and archetypes revolving around the character. I began this fascination when I watched the original Batman Animated Series as a young boy. There are so many complexities that enrich the character and the literature we have studied for years and analyzed in comic books. I always wanted to write Batman, but was worried about the collateral of copywright infringement and writing about things that weren’t original. For that reason, I must state the following as it would be a crime not to.
My screenplay is an adaptation that draws heavily from the Rebirth episode of the Batman Beyond Animated Series, created by Bruce Timm. I have the utmost respect for him as well as Bill Finger, Bob Kane, Frank Miller, and Paul Dini. It is difficult to limit other appreciation, but I will by saying that it extends to the writers, directors, producers, actors who portrayed the iconic characters in films, and their respective staffs. They have all helped to build a world I have happily escaped into for several years. The fanfilm I wrote is in no way affiliated with DC or Warner Bros, but would not be possible without them or people who have brought us Batman for so many years.
Besides the pure joy of exploring a Batman Beyond universe I also chose Batman for a few critical reasons. I stated earlier in this article that I haven’t had any success in getting other screenplays read. Batman is a beloved and iconic character and I felt if people viewed my script, they would be inclined to comment and review it because people know the lore so well. They would be very honest and open to sharing their opinions which I value.
The final reason I wrote this film is because I am clinging to the hope that I will see a Batman Beyond film in my life time. I put this off for so long because I figured it would be done by now, but nobody’s pulled the trigger yet (as far as I know).
The internet has become a powerful tool as shown by people recently uniting to petition a Deadpool movie. Even if this script isn’t deemed worthy, I hope people feel inspired to bring a Batman Beyond film into our lives that we can all enjoy, because at the end of the day, there are a lot of Batman fans out there. This is for them. I hope you like it.
